Bielenberg Gardens Come to Minneapolis Suburb

Long Time Coming
Woodbury is a beloved suburb of Minneapolis, offering the laid back lifestyle of suburbia hand in hand with the excitement of the city. Now this little town is about to take a big step forward in their city master plan with the Bielenberg Gardens Project. This project has been on the table for the city for nine years, and it’s finally been announced that it will indeed go through in August 2014.
After years of hard work on getting this project off the ground, this retail component of the Urban Village Master Plan that’s been developed by the town of Woodbury is finally getting ready to come to life. Groundbreaking is set to begin this fall. The centerpiece of the project will be a hybrid of retail and residential spaces. These will cover most of the footprint of Beilenburg Gardens. The current plan calls for more than ten retail spaces totaling an area of more than twelve thousand square feet(1). These will be anchored by a large grocery store, which broke ground earlier this summer, and a high-end liquor store.
The development is seated in southern Woodbury south of Bailey Road and west of Radio Drive. City leaders expect this center to become a hub of activity in the city as people come to live, work and shop in this beautiful new development. Perhaps most exciting is that the site will be connected by an underground pedestrian walkway to the Bielenberg Sports Center on the other side of the Radio Drive, and further on connecting the new and old trails along the roadway.
This development will open up new housing opportunities in the area, and will bring even more life and opportunity to this corner of Minneapolis. After the years of preparation and planning that have gone into this project, residents are excited to see what this development will offer.
